Frequently Asked Questions

A:

  • Terraced seating and stonework, crafted from over 2,000 tons of granite.
  • Improved pathways and seating for the elderly and disabled.
  • A new stage one-third larger than before, measuring 2,800 square feet.
  • Hundreds of plantings, including nearly 30 new trees.
  • A 40-foot permanent lighting and canopy truss at the front of the stage.

Q: What work was done in 2006?

A:

  • Removal of unsafe trees on the steep hill behind the concert meadow.
  • Using cut trees to shore up the hillside to prevent erosion and landslides into the concert meadow.
  • Restoration of hillside trails to a safer condition.
  • Building a new archway at the Grove entrance at 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard.

Q: How much did the renovations cost?

A: $15 million. The renovations are part of a $20 million capital and endowment campaign that includes $15 million for construction and improvements and $5 million to establish an endowment. To date, $16.8 million of the $20 million has been raised.

Q: I heard something about getting my name on a donor wall. Am I too late for that?

A: You still have time! Donors who contribute $3,000 or more to the Legacy Campaign will get their name on a permanent donor wall at the entrance to the concert meadow. The donor wall is also an excellent way to honor a loved one. This is the first offer of its kind in the history of Stern Grove Festival so donate now.
